Solid State Drives

Some people ask if solid state drives are really worth it. I personally think so. I have one myself and my computer's boot-up speed has increased drastically. It only takes 5 seconds for my computer to boot up compared to 2-3 minutes on a standard HDD. What I can't wait to see is SSD's becoming mainstream and fully replacing HDD's as they seem to last longer and can take much more damage than a traditional HDD since they contain no moving parts. The issue currently is that SSD's cost so much more than traditional HDD's. a 128 GB SSD would probably cost you around 90-100 dollars but a HDD at that size would be around 10-30 dollars. If you got some money to burn and have a fast computer I seriously suggest buying one of these. They're great and really increase load speeds.

I currently use my SSD for my larger games like Battlefield 3 and it boots up much faster than it did on a traditional HDD. Defragmenting is also another issue that is nonexistant in SSD's. Fragmenting on an SSD does almost nothing to the speed and all you are doing is wasting SDD life if you defrag it. HDD's take hours to defragment but SSD's dont even need defragging at all (Thank god). SDD's are the future of computer storage!
